Welcome

Fresh Off da Streetz - is a dance project for young people in the Devonport area of Plymouth who are looking for something fun and active to at the weekend. The Tonic Project has worked with Devon and Cornwall Police and other agencies to offer young people in Ford, Morice Town, Stoke, Keyham and Devonport opportunities to meet together and dance on Friday and Saturday evenings and during half-term.

Fresh Off da Streetz - offers young people opportunities to take part in an exciting range of dance experiences including street dance sessions, workshops, dance jams, film and technology. During half term young people worked with a choreographer and digital artist to film, shoot and edit their own short films using mobile phones. Check out the videos

Fresh Off da Streetz - brings together young people from across the community in an environment that is safe and respectful but challenging. The project also builds bridges to other dance provision, encourages new friendships and peer exchange through collaboration, dance and music.

Fresh Off da Streetz – ROCKS!!!!!!!

Made possible by…

FRESH – off da streetz is made possible by support from Plymouth Partnership Talents 2008/09 and the Youth Crime Action Plan Funding obtained by Plymouth City Council’s Youth Service. It was developed through partnership between the Tonic Project and Devon and Cornwall Police. Other partners include the local Neighbourhood Team, YOS, YISP, Salvation Army, Digital Media Worshops, Streetfactory, Institute of Digital Art and Technology, Plymouth University.

Why is there a need for this project?

In the Devonport area, during ongoing consultation with the community by Police and Partners, (PACT – Partners and Communities Together) the main priorities identified have been the anti-social behaviour committed by young people and a lack of youth facilities and provision.

It has been established that within this area, much of the reported anti-social behaviour is committed by large groups of young people who meet up. Often within these groups there are young females who seem uninspired by what is available to them in terms of activities and leisure.

There is little youth provision in the area. Much of the provision is aimed at young males i.e. sports activities such as football, boxing and rugby. One of the aims of this project was to provide a diversionary activity that is appealing to both genders.
